Things To Look For In A Coffee Shop As A Remote Worker

For the past month, I have made a plan to get out of the house. I created a folder on Google maps of all the shops I wanted to visit for work to prepare for this. Most are coffee shops but some are tea houses as well. When I’m saving the places on my list I base it on the menu, how far it is from my home, and how it looks inside. Since coffee shop hopping there are a few things I've noticed that are very important to me.

Comfortable Seating

Most times I am going to be at the coffee shop for 4+ hours so seating is not something I can compromise. I’ve been to some shops and the seats are so uncomfortable so I’ll just stand if they have a high bar and if not I will leave. Then I’ve been to some coffee shops that get it, there are cushions on the seats or they have couches.

Accessible Outlets

If I have to walk around looking for plugs it’s a no for me! This has only happened one time when they had one outlet and it was near the window bar so I had to move my things over and set up again. Then I've been to places where they have outlets on the table, on each wall, and under each table! If your target market is remote workers please have plugs and a bonus tip is having USB ports for phone charging.

Good Size Work Table

Now everyone isn’t going to be like me with a big tote bag but I do know that everyone appreciates space. I want to be able to have my drink/food out, my planner, notebook, and even my tripod if I’m recording. I want to have everything out so I won’t have to constantly go in my bag!

Clean and User-Friendly Restrooms

Anywhere I go I want there to be a clean restroom. This is a given that anyone appreciates that, but here’s the thing you can’t have JUST a clean restroom. It needs to be user-friendly. Most people are packing their bags/equipment etc. There needs to be a sturdy place where they can sit/hang those things.

Excellent Wifi

This is obvious and the speed needs to be great! Fortunately, I have a Mifi which is a wifi router. I appreciate it when a shop has their wifi information visible but if they don’t I will use my router.

Temperature

Not too cold, not too hot! The temperature matters for your comfort and productivity.

Good Food/Drink Menu

I look at the menu before I go to see what I want! I mainly get matcha, chai, or flavored tea. I’m not sure if this has to be said but please buy something when you are working in someone's establishment and using their wifi.

If you are a remote worker share with us things that are important to you when working from coffee shops etc.
