My hair has been natural for one year!
After years of wanting to be natural, I finally did it! April of 2022 finally made a year that I big chopped my hair.
Honestly, this was one good thing that came from the pandemic. In 2020 I wore braids for the majority of the year and once I took them out I was like MIGHT AS WELL, so I did. Once I big chopped I was very excited about the potential but I wasn't comfortable wearing it so I got braids again the let it grow out.
Wait, let's take it back so I had relaxed hair since three years old. My mommy is a hairstylist so luckily my hair has always been healthy and well maintained. I think it’s important to mention that because healthy hair and relaxed hair can co-exist.
Being that my hair was in a relaxed state for so long I just wanted something new, big, something that says I’ve arrived. Also, natural hair really fits my personality so it makes sense.
Throughout this time I’ve learned about my hair especially when it comes to products and techniques. My hair is very dense so keeping it simple is the best option for me. I’ve found these products and they work so I’m going to stick beside them until they stop working. My natural hair journey is already time-consuming and an investment so I don't want to make it more complicated. People have asked what’s my hair type and honesty I don’t know and I haven’t looked into it. I do have multiple textures, so yeah!
Here are some of my favorite products that I use:
Heritage Store Rosewater with Glycerin
Design Essentials Almond and Avocado Mousse
Design Essentials Curling Foam Custard
Blue Magic Grease
Renpure Coconut and Vitamin E Shampoo and Conditioner
African Royale Hot Six Oil
It’s Natural Stimulating Spray
TGIN edge control
Of course, I don’t use these products daily, but here’s what a routine would look like. I wash my hair or get it washed about every two weeks. I use the Renpure Shampoo and Conditioner. Sometimes I will do a hair/scalp detox before using clay+ACV or I will pre-poo using conditioner and herbal oils. After my wash, I detangle and use the mousse and curling custard for my two-strand twist. Once I finish twisting my hair I grease my scalp with the blue magic. I try to leave my twist as long as possible to preserve the style but when I unravel my twist I use the hot six oil to lock in moisture and decrease frizz. Throughout the week of wearing my twist out, I will spray my scalp with the stimulating spray and spray my hair with rosewater.
